Under the Trump Administration, the aviation industry will face three critical issues that will impact its future.
- Privatizing Air Traffic Control. Over the past year or so, there has been a groundswell of support to separate air traffic control from the Federal Aviation Administration into a private organization. The issue is likely to be debated in the coming year and included as part of the FAA reauthorization package.
- Integrating Drones Into U.S. Airspace. The increasing use of drone presents both safety concerns, as well as issues related to air traffic management.
- International Trade. For many years, the United States has had a policy of negotiating open sky fair competition agreements with other countries. Recently, however, policy makers have debated whether these agreements sufficiently represent the interests of U.S. carriers and workers.
