Foreign intrusion into U.S. elections undermines our core democratic values and poses serious national security threats, according to Morrison & Foerster’s John P. Carlin, the former Assistant Attorney General for National Security. In his Politico op-ed, “The Russians Are Coming. Again.,” John argues that the most startling revelations from the March 20, 2017 House Intelligence Committee Hearing were FBI Director James Comey and NSA Director Admiral Mike Rogers’ warnings that Russia will be back to meddle in the 2020 U.S. presidential election, and perhaps even earlier. John calls for a bipartisan effort to improve the protection of our voting databases and vote-counting and reporting systems, as well as enhanced measures to prepare the federal government to respond to future incidents.
